In a trial involving more than 6,000 men, the researchers showed that the drug reduced blood pressure in just 12.6 percent of the participants. This reduction was much higher than that reported with the placebo.

Viagra's effect on blood pressure is similar to the effects of nitrates found in some prescription drugs. In one study involving more than 500,000 men, the researchers found that Viagra reduced blood pressure by 0.5 percent.
